I’m thrilled to be a guest artist for this month’s CLASSroom Color Trend Challenge for Ellen Huston. I’m a huge fan of both the store and also this fun challenge.
If you haven’t heard about this fun challenge here is a little info. The Color Trend challenge is a monthly inspirational challenge based on the Color Trend inspirational photo (see below image) that is located on the CLASSroom blog. The color trends change monthly. A random challenge participant will receive a $50 gift certificate to the Ellen Hutson store. To be eligible, you MUST use Essentials by Ellen products and the photo badge as inspiration.
Here is the card I made for the challenge.
I first started stamping the image on Bristol Smooth paper with Copic friendly ink. Once it was set, I used my blending tool and blended the Distress Ink in Seedless Preserves, Tattered Rose, Victorian Velvet, Worn Lipstick, Salty Ocean, and Walnut Stain. I focused on putting the colors in the areas I wanted to flowers to be similar colors. The Walnut Stain was around the edge. I then spritzed it with water to give it a little texture.
Once it was dry, I took out my Copics to add some more color and dimension to the flowers. For the purple flower I used V12, V15, V17 and the pink flowers I used RV32 and RV34. I wanted to add a little more pink, purple, blue, and orange to the flowers so I also pulled out some Sharpies I had to add another layer of color to the flowers.
Once I was done adding color, I used a black pen and retraced the stamped image to add darker lines as well as add some dots around the flowers. I then used a white gel pen to add some highlights to the flowers. I die cut the beautiful several times and glued them together and on the top layer used Versamark ink so that I could heat emboss the beautiful in gold. The “You” is stamped with Versfine ink and clear embossed. I added some gold sequins at the end for additional shine.
I created a couple more cards for the challenge since I always like to have several choices. lol
Here is my second favorite card using the Beach Leading Lady. We are going on a cruise so I’ve had the packing list on my mind. I wanted this card to reflect all the fun things you think about packing before your trip.
For this card I stamped and clear heat embossed the images on Bristol Smooth paper. I then took out my Zig Clean Color Real Brush Markers and used similar colors as the Color Trend prompt. I stamped the sentiment on black cardstock and white heat embossed it. I then cut it into a tag and added some string. I used my black pen again to add some dots in between the blank spaces.
For my third card I was trying to combine the beach lady with a tropical background.
I stamped the flower on some Bristol Smooth and then masked it so I could blend the distress inks into the background. I spritzed some water on the background and once it was dry, colored the flowers with some Copic markers. I then stamped and die cut the beach lady. I colored her with Copics as well but added the dress after blending some Distress Ink. When I pieced the whole project together, I felt there was too much going on, so I stamped and gold heat embossed the flower on vellum to mute the background a bit.
I added the sentiment and gold heat embossed it to tie it into the gold flower.
For my last card, I wanted to try to incorporate the Mondo Hydrangea with the Mondo Sakura using alcohol inks.
I stamped the images and gold heat embossed them. I used a variety of alcohol inks and mixed my techniques between painting and dropping them into the spaces. The sentiment is gold heat embossed on vellum.
Thanks for stopping by and I can’t wait to see what you create for this fun challenge!
