It’s the beginning of August which means two things: 1) Summer is almost over (insert sad face) and 2) It’s time for a new Challenge over at The Flower Challenge. This month it is all about One Layer Cards.
A card made with one layer only, a single piece of card folded in half. No other layers allowed. Please don’t forget to use your Florals as always and as the MAIN feature on your card.
Here is my card using this beautiful set You Make Me Smile from Gina K. I was lucky enough to win gift card from a Gina K Blog Hop and these are some of stamps I chose.
I started off by using some Gina K Kraft Heavy cardstock. I love the weight of this and its perfect for a one layer card. I then stamped the stripes in Kraft ink on the card. Then I stamped the flower image in the same Kraft ink.
I took a chance and hoped that the color pencils would cover the ink. I finished coloring the images with the pencils and then added the sentiment in black.
To finish the card I used some sequins and there is one layer card. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a chance to play along with us this month!
Cheers and enjoy this last month of summer!
I’m also entering this in The Daily Marker Coloring Contest. Check it out here.

beautiful card…I need to get out my pencils and do some colouring although I’m sure my results would not be as wonderfully done as yours.

Erika, love the idea of the stripped background, it looks just beautiful and it adds dimension to the panel without adding another card stock layer.
Your pencil coloring is beautiful and it covers the lines perfectly, that is the fun of coloring with pencils, you can blend and add curvature to your petals and they add fabulous texture to them.
Beautiful card.

Wow Ericka I love this card and the idea of the two layers of stamping. Th flowers go over the stamped lines perfectly and as always are coloured to perfection. I won a Gina K voucher too but being in Australia my wait is longer, I am trying to be patient.

I would never have thought to use colored pencils on stripes like this, Ericka, but I love how it looks. Your coloring is fabulous and the pencils cover most of the stripe – at least enough to not be distracting.

Thanks Bobby. I wasn’t sure it was going to work out. A little experimentation that thankfully worked out. lol
