Spooky Mixed Media Halloween Tag Tutorial

Hey crafty ghouls! đź‘» It’s that time of year when everything spooky and eerie inspires us, so I’m back with a fun mixed media project featuring the Lindy’s Gang Haunted Halloween set for the monthly FB Challenge! I couldn’t wait to dive into my stash and pull out some of my favorite Tim Holtz stencils—Twisted, Crossbones, and Halloween Script—and play around with layers of texture and vibrant Halloween colors.

Step 1: Creating the Twisted Background

I started with the Twisted stencil to set the mood. I sprinkled some of Lindy’s Freaky Franken-lime (a crazy bright green with shimmering magic!) over the stencil, adding an instant haunted vibe. Once the background dried, the green shimmer gave off a cool potion-like glow—perfect for a witchy Halloween feel.

Step 2: Crossbones and Texture Play

Next, I took the Crossbones stencil and applied texture paste for a bony effect. This step brought some awesome dimension to the tag, but it’s Halloween, so I had to amp up the colors! I added Hag’s Wart Orange and Witch’s Potion Purple to the crossbones for a punch of fun. These rich colors just scream spooky season, don’t they?

Step 3: Darkening the Mood

The tag was a little too light for the dark, eerie look I was going for. So, I grabbed some Screamin’ Banshee Black and painted around the crossbones to bring everything into balance. A few spritzes of water helped blend the colors into the background, making the green look like bubbling potion swirling around my crossbones. I love how the textures and colors blended together here—it turned out so dark and moody!

Step 4: Finishing Touches with Halloween Script

To wrap it all up, I couldn’t resist using more texture paste with the Halloween Script stencil. The layered script added the final haunted touch, making the whole tag feel like a piece straight from a spellbook!

Final Thoughts

This project was a blast, layering both color and texture to bring spooky vibes to life. I hope this inspires you to dive into your Halloween stash and play along with us. And don’t forget to join the fun over at the Lindy’s Gang Facebook challenge!

Thanks for stopping by! Wishing you a wickedly creative week! đź–¤

Until next time, stay strangely creative!
