Lindy’s Gang September Color Challenge

Happy September, my crafty friends! It’s the 1st of September, and you know what that means—a brand new Lindy’s Gang Facebook Color Challenge is here!

This month, we’re diving into the rich, grungy hues of the Steampunk Soiree set. For my inspiration piece, I created a mixed media journal page using the stunning Visible Image Butterfly Effect set and the dynamic Breakout stencil.

I absolutely adore these colors! I started by masking off the edges of my watercolor journal to keep the focus on the center of the page. Then, I applied Petticoat Plum and Top Hat Teal, spritzing them with water to blend. The way these colors flow and mix together is simply magical, creating a beautiful, moody background.

Once my background was dry, I added some texture with Bondoliero Brown, using Ranger Metallic Paste through the Visible Image Breakout Stencil. The metallic paste brought a shiny, metal-like finish to the page, perfectly complementing the steampunk theme. While the paste was setting, I stamped and heat embossed the Visible Image Butterfly Effect using Lindy’s Gang Gimme Five Gold.

To bring the butterfly to life, I painted it with Apothecary Azul and Yesteryear Yellow, then grunged up the edges with a bit of Portobello ink for that well-worn, vintage feel. I also stamped and clear-embossed a sentiment on vellum, adding a delicate, ethereal touch to the background.

For the finishing touches, I added some background stamping in Portobello ink and attached the butterfly with foam tape to give it dimension. I’m thrilled with how this page turned out, and I hope it inspires you to join us in this exciting challenge!
