Capturing “After the Rain” Magic with Lindy’s Gang

Hello Gang! Ericka here, and today I am diving into my art journal with the enchanting Drink Me Silly Magical Shaker set. These colors are absolutely stunning, boasting a muted tone that glows with a subtle sparkle. After a recent rainstorm here in Texas (complete with the usual hurricane warnings), I felt inspired to create an “After the Rain” themed journal page. Let’s jump into the process!

Process

1. Create the Background

To start, I sprinkled my page with the hues from the Drink Me Silly set and gently spritzed water to move the colors around. I focused the darker shades like My Mojito Green and Blue Hawaiian Blue along the edges, while the lighter tones brightened up the center. Using a wet brush, I blended the colors for a harmonious look.

2. Add Texture to the Background

Next, I brought in some texture with the PaperArtsy Kate Crane 005 stamp set. I randomly stamped images across the page using Versafine Clair inks in Twilight, Portabello, and Hawthorne Rose. For added depth, I used the PaperArtsy Kate Crane PS427 stencil with texture paste, creating a delicate and intriguing texture.

3. Add Focal Images

I then stamped and watercolored the beautiful flowers and leaves from the PaperArtsy Tracy Scott 88 set. For the flowers, I chose Cosmopolitan Pink, and for the leaves, a blend of My Mojito Green with a hint of Blue Hawaiian Blue. After fussy cutting them, I glued them onto the page, bringing the scene to life.

4. Add Highlights and Shadows to Focal Images

To make the flowers and leaves pop, I added highlights with watercolor pencils and deepened the shadows using a black pencil. This step really brought out the details, making the images stand out against the background.

5. Add the Sentiment

Finally, I added words to my page using the AALL & Create Nightshade washi tape, perfectly capturing the mood of the page.
