We are half way through March (boy did that go fast) and so its time for the reminder post for The Flower Challenge. This month’s challenge is a fun on especially if you are like me and tend to collect a lot of leftovers. lol

For my card I used a bunch of scraps, in fact as many as I could fit on the page to make a mixed media card.

Here is a look of my scrap selection.

I then went through my pile and selected colors that I thought would work together as well as ones that would provide an interesting contrast.

Once I had a more manageable pile, I started playing around with placement and gluing the pieces down.

I wanted to make sure I had both colors and textures that were interesting and added some pieces from a die cut book page that I had left over. I also added some splatters of black and white paint to the background.

I then added my flower, again a leftover from a previous projects, and a Tim Holtz chipboard sentiment I embossed. I also added some white gel pen and black pencil around my background to frame it.

However, after taking this picture, I felt that both my flower and sentiment got lost in the busyness of my background and so I added some black paper to frame them both.

Can you tell the difference? I think the black frame helps both the flower and sentiment pop off the card a little more.

Thank you for stopping by and I hope you have a chance to play along with us this month and use some of your beautiful scraps you have been saving.

What a fabulous mixed media collage, Ericka. You turned that pile of scraps into a work of art!

Ericka, I can’t even wrap my brain around how this all came together – but you’ve done it, and really fabulously!
