Visible Image Repurposed Box

Happy Monday! I hope you are doing well. I’m eagerly awaiting the new Visible Image stamps that have just been released have you seen them yet? Check them out here. Today I thought I would play along with the Visible Image Facebook Challenge to Up-cycle an item using VI products.

My husband loves to collect cigar boxes and bring them home. I’ve been able to use them all over my craft room to store my Daniel Smith paint pans, keep buttons, essential oils, and even to hold my finished cards. Ok, he may be a bit of an enabler, but I truly love have so many different sizes of these interesting wood boxes. I love them all and might have a bit of a problem. This box was holding my calligraphy pen sets so I thought I would give it a pretty makeover. I started by painting a thin layer of gesso on the background.

I added layers for blue PaperArtsy paint in Summer Sky and Twilight with some gold paint brush strokes for fun. Once the paint was dry, I used texture paste with the Visible Image Butterfly Ink stencil. I sprinkled on a mixture of WOW! Embossing Powder consisting of Cloud 9, Midnight Dream, and Dominica which is part of the Trio Caribbean set.

I let the texture paste dry overnight and then heat embossed it. I also added the text stamp from the Visible Images Scripted Streets set in Archival Cobalt Blue. I used my blender brush and Distress Oxide in Chipped Sapphire around the butterfly to help it stand out from my blue background.

Next came the fun part. I used the Scripted Streets and the butterflies from the Live Life Now set with the WOW! Embossing Pad and Bonding Powder and heat set it the images. This left the images a little sticky so that I could use the gold foil flakes around the box. These flakes are a bit messy but I love the finished look.

I wanted to add words and found some small pieces of wood that I painted the same blues as the box. I stamped the sentiments from the Visible Image Beautiful Soul in black Versafine and clear heat embossed them.

That finished up my box and now my pens have a pretty place to stay and I have a little more art in my craft room. Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful week!
