Monochrome Flower Challenge

Happy May! Wow it seems like April flew by and I can’t believe we are already in May. Today we have a new challenge over at The Flower Challenge. This month the challenge is “Monochrome”.

Monochrome means either ‘black and white’ or varying tones of one color. We are also allowing white card bases and touches of white. Our Guest Designer this month is Nonni from Nonnishandmadecards, go check out her beautiful card here.

Here is my card for the challenge using blues, one of my favorite colors, and The Ton’s Peony Close Up.

I started of stamping the image on Bristol Smooth paper and heat embossing it with Metalline First Frost which is a light blue embossing powder with a pearly finish.

I then started watercoloring the flower with Karin Brushmarkers.  I laid down several laryers of different blues to build up the color. I started with my lightest and ended with the darkest shard where the shadows would occur. Here is a couple pictures of the process. I used an even darker blue for the leaves and the middle of the flower.

Once I was finished with the watercoloring, I used the tips from Kathi from The Daily Marker and shaded areas and added lines with my blue colored pencils.

I love the depth and details the colored pencil adds to my flower. Tip – make sure your colored pencils are very sharp, use a light hand, and if you’ve embossed be careful not to color on it.

To finish my card, I die cut the sentiment several times and heat embossed it in the Metalline First Frost twice, and then added a two layers to the bottom using the Blue Glitz powder. I also stamped and embossed the “you” in the same embossing powder.

I added the card to a navy card base to complete my blue monochrome card.
