Happy middle of the month! I hope your January is going well. It’s time for the reminders post for the Flower Challenge. This month is all about shaped cards.
This month’s challenge is being sponsored by Alex Syberia who has a Etsy store filled with gorgeous digital images. She is also giving the winner of the challenge two digital images of their choice.
I’m featuring the Winter Flower digi from Alex’s store and this time I’ve pulled out my Daniel Smith Watercolors to do a little painting.
I love this image and I decided to print it on watercolor paper using a lighter line color so that I could get a no-line watercolor look. This time I made the print larger (another benefit of using a digital stamp) and then cut the paper down to 4 1/4 x 8 1/2 to get a rectangle card.
To see the colors I used, check out the links in the supplies. If you would love to get your hands on some artist grade watercolors at an affordable price check out Lydia Fiedler’s Daniel Smith Watercolor FB group where she creates splits of these beautiful watercolors. Make sure to answer her questions in order to be admitted into the group.
So the above picture was my work in progress. I started taking Kathy Racoosin’s Online Card Classes The Coloring Challenge Road Trip and picked up a couple of techniques on the first day to incorporate into my card. Here is the before and after picture.
To enhance my image I added some colored pencils to my watercoloring in the darker sections on the flowers.
I also added additional gray shading in the nooks and crannies to help the image pop.
I can’t wait to start the second day of Kathy’s class to see what other fun things I can incorporate in my coloring!
To finish off my card, I used this sentiment from Pinkfresh and added some sequins.
Thanks for stopping by and I hope you have a wonderful week. Check out Kathy’s class and all of here great tips!

I’m using a Brother printer but I have to open the side door so the paper can come straight out.

Ericka, I love the intense colors on this big and beautiful flower, I can see the difference in the before and after picture, simply amazing.
I’ve always been a bit intimidated by coloring big images, but you make it look so easy.
Awesome job.
