Winter Flowers

Happy New Year!  I hope you has a wonderful celebration! A new year and new month means it is time for another challenge over at The Flower Challenge. This month’s challenge is to use florals on a shaped card.

This month’s challenge is being sponsored by Alex Syberia who has a Etsy store filled with gorgeous digital images. She is also giving the winner of the challenge two digital images of their choice.

I’m featuring the Winter Flower digi from Alex’s store. There are so many gorgeous images it was hard to make a selection.

To start, I printed this beautiful image on Copic friendly paper but made the lines more transparent so that I could get a no-line coloring look on the image. To find out how to print digital images check out this Kit & Clowder link # 16. I then set to coloring up the image with Copics.

Note: I’m still learning and improving my coloring techniques but what I have learned is from Alyce at Kit & Clowder, who offers amazing online classes to get you started.

I started with the main flower using: B02, B01, B00, B000, and B0000. I then started on the smaller flowers using:  Yellow Flowers – Y17, Y15, Y13, Y11, and Y02 and for the Pink Flowers – R85, RV23, RV10, RV00, and RV000

I love the look of blue leaves and so used the following: Big Leaves – B99, B97, B95, B93 and B91.

For the Smaller Leaves, I used – BG 49, BG45, BG 23. Then I focused on the centers, which I used Y13, Y11, Y02, and E23 for shading. For the yellow flower centers I used – C10, C7, C5 and a white gel pen and the pink flower centers – B97, B95 and white gel pen.

Next came the hard part. How do I make this into a shaped card. I decided to use the Altenew Banner die which would trim some of my image. I’m not going to lie, its hard to cut something you’ve worked hard on coloring. I took a deep breath and figured out the best way to use the die and preserve the most elements.

Once I used the die I used Copics in E53, E51, E50 to shade a bit of the background. I love the old paper look it gave the background.  I then used the banner die to trace the navy cardstock and followed the shape of the banner die.

I used the Pinkfresh die with some blue glitter paper and layered it on the back and added a small bow to the top and some sequins to finish off my card.
