Poppies in Alcohol Ink

Happy September! I hope you are having a good fall! Our weather here in Texas is still in the 100s but hopefully it will fall soon. This month’s new challenge over at The Flower Challenge is “Anything Goes” so I hope you’ll be able to participate.

Also note the The Flower Challenge has a new Instagram account @theflowerchallenge2.  We also have another wonderful sponsor this month – My Favorite Things who has donated two $25 gift card for two winner!

We also have Michele Ferguson as our guest designer this month who has made a beautiful card for our challenge so make sure to leave her some love as well as all the other talented Design Team members.

My card this month is using the My Favorite Things Poppies Background! I love the lines on this stamp and tried a little alcohol ink painting.

I actually made two cards using the Poppies Background.

2cards

I stamped the background on heavyweight Yupo and heat embossed it with gold. Then I used alcohol inks in Crimson, Poppyfield, Valencia, and Mermaid to paint the background. For the background, I used a paintbrush and the Thank you card I tried just dropping the ink where I wanted it to go.

Alcohol ink can be a little tricky and there were a couple for times the ink escaped its embossed boundaries. Once my backgrounds were dry, I cut down the Yupo paper to fit a A2 card.

I finished the cards with some MFT sentiments, I believe the Happy Birthday sentiment is from a retired set.

On a side note, I was left with a bunch of beautiful red and gold pieces from my background. They were just too pretty to throw out (yes I might have a scrap paper hoarding problem lol) so I decided to make a couple more cards.

I took my strips and arranged them on some black cardstock and glued them down. Then I too a heart die I had and cut out the middle to make two additional cards.

So before you throw away all those pretty scraps take a moment and see if maybe you can make something pretty with them as well!

Have a wonderful week and I hope you get a chance to play along with our challenge this month!

  1. That is one thing I’ve never tried, Ericka. Painting with alcohol inks. You’ve done a great job and those poppies are so bright and beautiful. Using the remaining strips for the other cards was brilliant, as are the cards. The bright colors pop off the black background.
