Favorite Flower

It’s time for a new challenge over at The Flower Challenge and this month the theme is “Favorite Flower.”

Ok, on to my card for this month’s challenge. This was a hard challenge for me, it was like asking me to pick my favorite child . . . it kind of depends on my mood. lol

But for this challenge I picked peonies since I love their beautiful blooms and the variety of colors they come in. It also tends to be a flower that I use a lot when stamping.

This Peony is from The Ton and I love the close up flowers as they are so fun to watercolor. I started by stamping the flower on watercolor paper with Versamark ink and then heat embossing it with The Ton’s Rose Gold Embossing Powder.

I painted the flowers in layers with Daniel Smith watercolors. For the first layer I used Wisteria and let it dry and then added some more shading in Imperial Purple. I added Quinacridone Violet in the darkest parts of the flower to add more depth. For the leaves, I used Phthalo Yellow Green and Viridian and added Quinacridone Deep Gold and Cadmium Yellow to the center of the flower.

Once it was dry i added some additional shine to my petals with some Pixie Dust from Ink on 3. For the sentiment I die cut the words on white paper twice, glued them together, and then used Versamark ink to heat embossed them with the same embossing powder. To finish the card I added some clear droplets as embellishments.
