Distress Oxide Butterflies

I hope you are all having a wonderful summer. Today I’m playing with some Visible Image stamps and Distress Oxides. I love using Distress Oxides on photo paper and wanted to see if I could get a fun look by stamping different layers using the oxides.

maincard

This card was so fun to make and I love the bright colors from the Distress Oxides. To start, I stamped the Scripted Streets stamp on photo paper with Worn Lipstick Distress Oxide.

Once it was dry, I took the large butterfly from the Live Life Now set and stamped it with Lucky Clover Distress Oxide. Special Note: always let the layers dry so that the image remains crisp and doesn’t get muddy. Once the butterfly was dry, I added the smaller butterfly images in Picked Raspberry and Twisted Citron Distress Oxide Ink.

I then used my craft mat and added Antique Lined, Spun Sugar, and Milled Lavender Distress Oxides and lightly spritzed the ink and smooshed the photo paper in it to get ink coverage all over the paper. Once it was dry, I used a soft cloth and wiped away the oxide and was left with a bright image with lots of layers

I used the sentiment from the Where Dreams Take you set and stamped it in Archival ink twice in my MISTI to make sure I got a good impression.

This card was so fun to create and I love experimenting with the way the Distress Oxides react.

  1. Such a bright beautiful and stunning card! I would never have thought to use photo paper! I was always told it was a no no! I am pleasantly surprised that distressed oxides dry on it. Thank you for sharing your creation and techniques! I’m inspired!

    1. Thanks Anne. I do make sure I wipe my stamp down since it does stick to the paper a little. Yes the Oxides dry really well on the paper and once they dry just wipe off the oxidized part.
