Peony Close Up in Watercolor

It is time for the reminder post for The Flower Challenge. This month the challenge is Anything Goes but please make sure that you are using flowers as your main image.

Here is my DT card using this gorgeous Peony Close Up from The Ton. I was lucky enough to win the stamp of my choice during their February release. It was a hard choice to pick just one, but in the end I am partial to a big background flower!

I started by stamping this gorgeous blossom in Spun Sugar Distress Ink and then pulled out my Daniel Smith Watercolor splits that I purchased from Lydia at Understanding Blue. I love that I get to try so many colors at a reasonable price since she splits up the tubes and sells them in groups. Here is a look at the three splits I have, they always make me so happy.

Anyway back to the card. I started out with Quinacridone Lilac and laid down a light base, putting the color down in the places of the shadow and pulling it out with a wet clean brush. I then repeated the process with the Imperial Purple.

I decided to play around a little bit and added some lines of Permanent Viloet to the petals and used a wet brush to blend them in a bit and give a little texture to the petals. For the center of the flower, I started with the Cadmium Yellow and dabbed it around. Once it was dry, I used the same technique with New Gamboge and Quinacridone Deep Gold.

For the leaves I used both Phthalo Yellow Green and Virdin. Once all was dry, I added the sentiment that I white heat embossed and popped it up with foam tape. I added some sequins for a little shine.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope you get a chance to check out the other beautiful cards my fellow Design Team members made.
