Magical Mysteries

I’m over at the Topflight blog and I hope your Friday is going well. I’ve been experimenting with some Emerald Creek Rita Barakat Magical Mysteries Embossing Powders. These have been so fun to play with and I love the colors I have and might have to get the full set soon! When these powders melt they are shiny and gorgeous. Here are a couple of cards I made with these beautiful powders.

For this card I started with a manila folder I had used with my gel press and some acrylics.  I had made so many backgrounds play around with the gel press and I thought this one would go well with the colors of the embossing powders I had.

I started out by stamping the word image in Ground Espresso Distress Ink. That’s right you can stamp in Distress Ink and these powders will still stick which I thought was pretty great. I used the Kiss of the Fairy embossing powder to give the words a pink sheen. Then I stamped the butterflies in Antique Linen Distress Ink and used the Midnight Magic embossing powder on them.

I love the shiny texture these powders add to the paper. I then inked up the sides of the panel with the Patina Oxide Baked Texture. I finished it by adding the sentiment that I stamped in black Versafine ink and clear heat embossing it.

For my second card, I used a panel I had water colored with a pink from the Altenew Watercolor set. I used the stencil and some Versmark ink to dab in partially on the stencil. I heat embossed it in Midnight Magic and then stenciled the rest to heat emboss in Kiss of the Fairy.

I then used a stencil brush to add a little Antique Linen Distress ink on the bottom and some Ground Espresso along the side to give it a more rustic look. I stamped the sentiment in Versafine and clear embossed it. I think next time, I will use a white so that it will show better against the blue cardbase.

For my 3rd card, I wanted to make my nephew a birthday card. He’s 12 now so I wanted it to look more masculine.

I used another gel press background I had created and used the Midnight Magic and Patina Oxide after stenciling with Versamark ink.

I hope you enjoyed these cards and get a chance to try out these awesome embossing powders. Have a wonderful weekend and thanks for stopping by!

Cheers!

  1. Erika, I am sorry I missed these. They are stunning uses of the powder. I really loved how you used the Kiss of the Fairy and Midnight Magic. Did you charge it in the sun and check it out in the dark. I would love to see how it looks in the dark (although I know it’s tough to photograph. Most of my art is for my eyes only at night so far.
