Watercolor Blending

I hope you all had a wonderful weekend. I’m over on A Blog Named Hero played along with our watercolor challenge. Have you played yet?

School is almost ending here in Houston, Texas so I thought that I would make some teacher thank you cards. I love this Peonies and having been playing around with watercoloring it with different color blends.

I started out stamping the main image (teal peony) on watercolor paper in Versamark Ink and white heat embossing it. Then I masked the image, and stamped the peony on the other sides and heat embossed those as well. I then experimented on a piece of paper with some colors from my Kuretake Gansai Tambi set to see what colors would blend well. I ended up picking #62 & 50 for the teal flower, #34 & 40 for the pink, and #38 & 37 for the purple.

I started by laying the darker color closet to the center or where there is a shadow and then put the next color right above it. I took a separate brush and with clean water started slowly blending out the color. I love the bolder look it produced.

Once my image was dry, I die cut the “Thank” sentiment from the March Kit four times and glued them together to add some dimension to my one layer card. I heat embossed the “You” in white and placed it below. For the finishing touch I added some clear sequins and adhered the card to black cardstock.
